Educational Opportunities...

On Tuesday we attended an educational opportunity provided through the Greater London Area Golf Superintendents Association. The event was hosted by Westhaven G & CC. The association brought in a number of very informative speakers to present a number of topics. Topics discussed were disease management, the benefits of a proper aeration program, interpreting soil reports, the use of specific fertilizers to encourage bentgrass and manage disease pressure, using technology in an environmental approach to golf course management and environmental irrigation management and practices. Winter Tree Work & 2009 Member Survey

We were out for a tour today marking some dead and dying trees for removal. Our arbourist will be coming next week to remove some trees on our property lines that border some residences. Some of these trees are not in play (in the corner of the property off of the 14 th hole) but these trees present a danger to neighbouring houses. As mentioned before we do try to complete all tree work ourselves, but with the risk of damage due to tight areas and the proximity of the houses we have decided to have our arbourist drop the trees. I have received the member input form our survey done in 2009. I will be putting together a number of posts pertaining to each of the categories that were evaluated. I find this information very interesting and useful. There are a number of ideas and comments that through further communication, I can show our forethought and progress on some of these topics.
