Rain, Heat and Greens Culture...

The high temperatures and recent rain have our soil temperatures rather high and have reduced the oxygen in the root zone of our greens. To combat any potential issues that could arise from these factors we will be venting our greens with needle tines following the Men's Club Championship weekend. On Tuesday, September 3rd we will apply a very light topdressing of sand, vent the greens, matt in the sand with a coco matt and then follow up with a good rolling. There will be very little disturbance and once rolled, they will putt very nicely.

Worn out....

We have noticed a few areas directly behind some collars that are getting worn and thin. This is a result of our greens rolling program. We typically roll 6 days a week to attain our green speed. This rather intense rolling program is compacting and wearing on the bluegrass roughs around the greens. We are somewhat limited in the direction of rolling as our bunkers and mounding do come into play when planning our direction in which to roll. To alleviate the compaction we will be aerating the areas the week after the Men's Club Championship. We will then interseed the areas to aid recovery. Additional fertilizer and water will also be supplemented.

Ring the Bell!!!

This week we installed a couple of "reminder" signs at the 5th Tee in regards to "ringing the bell". To avoid any dangerous situations, we remind all members and their respective guests to "ring the bell" before entering the practice area to the left of #5 fairway in search of errant tee shots. When the bell is rung, the people on the practice tee are to refrain from hitting shots until the area is clear. We have installed a few signs at the practice tee as reminders as well.
